McKool Smith joined forces with the Brazilian firm of Licks Attorneys to present a panel discussion called “Global Patent Enforcement to Maximize Portfolio Value: Brazil, China, US, EU and Beyond,” at the Belo Mansion in Dallas, Texas.
The panelists included Austin Principals John Campbell, Laurie Fitzgerald, Lindsay Martin Leavitt who provided insight to attorneys involved in strategies to monetize patents, either by licensing them to others, asserting them against infringers, or simply using them for defensive purposes. The U.S. laws and rules of procedure, that protect these valuable assets, differ from rules and processes in other countries, such as Brazil, China, the EU and beyond. The seminar was moderated by Dallas Principal Doug Cawley and was heard via webinar, live across the U.S.
Among the topics:
- Recent trends in patentability and invalidity
- Remedies available to patent holders in infringement actions around the world
- The interplay between the enforcement of standard-essential patents (SEPs) and antitrust/competition law
- Recent developments in high-tech patent litigation and cases involving fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory (FRAND) licensing
Attendees were eligible for 3.0 CLE through the State Bar of Texas and the State Bar of California.
