McKool Smith Principal Nick Matich was quoted in a National Law Journal article, “Amid Challenge From New LLC, PTO to Take Another Look at Patent Worth $675 Million.” VLSI Technologies won a $2.1 billion verdict against Intel last fall and is crying foul over a shell company that won institution of an inter partes review of one of the semiconductor patents involved in the massive judgment and award. Nick said, “I’m a little surprised to see they instituted it; any time a patent owner wins a significant judgment, they’re likely to be held hostage by third parties like this.” Read the article here.
