DALLAS – The Dallas Business Journal recently set out to answer the question: “Who are North Texas’ top defense attorneys for ‘bet the company,’ high-stakes litigation?” The results are in, and McKool Smith name partner Mike McKool has earned a spot in this elite group.”
Mr. McKool is one of five attorneys profiled in the newspaper’s June 9 special section, “The Defenders.” To compile the list, Dallas Business Journal reporters interviewed dozens of general counsel, judges and attorneys from the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
“No one practices law to win awards,” says Mr. McKool. “But is extremely gratifying to know that the members of the Dallas business and legal communities recognize the good work our firm does on behalf of our clients.”
In his introduction to “The Defenders,” Dallas Business Journal editor Huntley Paton describes the listed attorneys as “good litigators – legendary in some cases – but just as importantly, they frequently are able to defuse situations before they go to trial.”
“Either way, these folks earn their money, and our respect,” Mr. Paton says in the article.”
In the profile of Mr. McKool, one opposing attorney says, “You need to anticipate that Mike will pick out themes that will win his case.” He goes on to say “Mike is a very fair, reasonable guy to deal with. He’s got a lot of integrity and honesty.”
Previously, Mr. McKool has been named one of only five Go-To attorneys in the field of civil litigation by Texas Lawyer. He also has been named a “Best Lawyer in Dallas” by D Magazine, as well as a Texas Super Lawyer by Texas Monthly.
Mr. McKool is trial counsel for some of the largest corporations in the world, including major airlines, energy companies, telecommunications firms and investment banking houses. Some of his clients include Ericsson, Electronic Data Systems, National Instruments and American Airlines.
McKool Smith has approximately 85 attorneys in Dallas, Austin and Marshall, Texas, handling commercial and intellectual property litigation for national and international clients. The firm is recognized as one of the premier litigation law firms in the United States, having earned significant courtroom victories for clients such as Electronic Data Systems, BearingPoint, Ericsson, Medtronic and National Instruments.
