McKool Smith secured a $13 million patent infringement verdict on behalf of Optis Wireless Technology, LLC and PanOptis Patent Management LLC (collectively, “PanOptis”) against Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. and Huawei Device USA, Inc. (collectively, “Huawei”).
The verdict was announced on August 27, 2018 following a 5-day jury trial before Judge Rodney Gilstrap in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas in Marshall. Jurors awarded PanOptis $10.6 million in damages finding that Huawei willfully infringed five PanOptis patents. Judge Gilstrap issued his final judgment in March 2019 adding $2.6 million in enhanced damages for a total verdict of more than $13 million.
