DALLAS, Texas (January 16, 2015) -- McKool Smith has secured a $15 million patent infringement verdict on behalf of Texas-based Droplets, Inc. against Sears Holding Corp. and Overstock.com Inc.
The verdict was announced on Friday, January 16 after a four-day trial before Judge Rodney Gilstrap in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas in Marshall. After three hours of deliberations, jurors awarded $15 million in damages to Droplets finding that the defendants directly and indirectly infringed three Droplets’ patents which cover technology that allows access to graphic user interfaces over both the Internet and private client/server networks. The verdict ordered Sears to pay $11 million in damages and Overstock.com to pay $4 million. The patents-in-suit include U.S. Patent Numbers 6,687,745; 7,502,838; and 8,402,115.
